Beliefs

Our Mission is to help people find and follow Jesus. The foundation of our mission is our core beliefs, which highlight the basis for our doctrine and practice.

What We Believe at Compass

We believe in one God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:
  • We believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of all things visible and invisible. Romans 11:33-36; Genesis 1:1; Mathew 5:48, John 10:30
  • We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the eternal Word, the one and only Savior. Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, both fully human and fully divine; Who lived a sinless life; Who suffered and was crucified as an atonement for sin; Who rose again bodily from the dead on the third day; Who ascended into Heaven; and Who will return in victory to rule forever. Philippians 2:5-7, John 14:19, John 8:58, John 1:1, 14, Colossians 2:9
  • We believe in the Holy Spirit. Who convicts of sin; Who indwells every Christian; Who helps us in our weakness and intercedes for us in prayer; and Who empowers us to a fruitful Christian life. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22, Galatians 5:22-23, 1 Corinthians 12:4-6, 1 Peter 4:10, Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:7-11
We believe in the Bible - God’s word:
  • We believe God inspired the original writings of the Scripture and those original writings (autographs) were consequently without error. 2 Peter 1:20-21
  • We believe that the Bible is the final authority for all matters of faith, truth, morality, and Christian living. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12
We believe in the Gospel:
  • That man, created by God, willfully sinned against God and is consequently lost and without hope apart from Jesus Christ. Romans 3:23; 6:23
  • That salvation—the forgiveness of sins—is only by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:21, Romans 5:8
  • That one receives salvation by putting faith in Christ, repenting of sin, confessing Christ, and the Bible commands every believer in Christ to be immersed (baptized). John 3:16-17, Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9, Acts 2:38-39, Romans 6:3-4
  • That those who have received salvation through faith in Jesus Christ are sent into the world to proclaim the Gospel and to love and serve the world just as Jesus Himself did. Matthew 28:18-20
We believe in the Church:
  • We believe in the Church of Jesus Christ, founded on the Day of Pentecost, consisting of all Christians everywhere, and organized into local assemblies, called churches. Acts 2
  • We believe the Bible teaches that every Christian should be an active member of a local church. Hebrews 10:24-25
  • We believe that the Elders of the church are the overseers of its affairs and the shepherds of its members; that they are the final interpretive authority of the Bible’s meaning and application for the church; and that they are responsible for the oversight, instruction, edification, discipline, and restoration of church members. Acts 20:28, 1 Timothy 3:1-10; Titus 1:5-9
  • We believe the local church is an autonomous body which cooperates with many Christian agencies, but is regulated or dominated by none. Ephesians 5:23B
  • We believe that the pattern of the New Testament was to observe the Lord’s Supper each week. Acts 2:42
  • We believe love is to be shown to all people as the central trait of the Christian faith.  Matthew 22:37-40; John 13:35, 1 Peter 4:8
Final Authority For Matters Of Belief and Conduct

This statement of beliefs does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
